Deep River Friends Meeting is hosting the “Camp Out for Hunger” food drive Nov. 18-22 (M-F from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) to benefit Hand to Hand Food Pantry. Deep River Friends member David Smith plans to camp out daily to collect donations to help feed families this holiday season. This year’s fundraiser also aims to collect $5,000 for Western North Carolina Hurricane Helene Relief.
The year’s event coincides with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Community members who wish to donate are encouraged to bring their items to Deep River Friends Meeting (5300 West Wendover Avenue) Nov. 18-22.
Deep River’s goal is to collect at least 10,000 pounds of food for Hand to Hand Pantry and $5,000 for Western North Carolina Hurricane Helene Relief. Since 2017, Deep River Friends Meeting has collected more than 63,000 pounds of food for Hand to Hand Food Pantry.

Letter from event organizer David Smith
Every year we are faced with new challenges in the efforts to make sure everyone has the food and nutrition they need. This year we had an unprecedented storm devastate communities in western North Carolina. As always we need to support our local families and community but when we set big goals our neighbors always come through.
With that in mind this years Camp Out for Hunger has a goal of 10,000 lbs of food for our local pantry Hand to Hand Pantry AND a goal of $5,000 to go to support those affected by Hurricane Helene. This is a challenge I know the High Point and Guilford County community will rise to. I look forward to donning my fussy hat and welcoming the love and support of this neighborhood once again. As always I am grateful.
